Healthy yet instagram friendly restaurants in San Diego

This Wednesday there are two reasons you should be excited: 1. we’re almost halfway through the week (yay!) and 2. today’s post is a collab with a good friend of mine — Rawvana! She’s a vegan lifestyle blogger and I definitely recommend you check out her blog and vlogs!

But alright, so first things first. Can we all agree that we live in a foodie age? I feel like everyone is a foodie nowadays, eating at cool places and posting cool pictures on Instagram (I’m definitely guilty)!

If I’m being honest, I’m a big fan of this foodie phenomenon and I think it’s awesome, but, I’m also a huge fan of healthy living and eating. Even though we’ve gotten past the myth that healthy food can’t taste good (it’s mostly delicious), it can be hard to find healthy food places that have that Instagramable wow-factor we sometimes crave.

Lucky for you, Rawvana and I went around town stopping by some of our favorite places and today we’re gonna share three places that are not only healthy but also super Instagramable

Cafe Gratitude: 1980 Kettner Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101 8 AM — 10 PM

I love this place. They have a few locating, but I usually go to the one in Little Italy, it’s such a cute place and it’s perfect for any meal. You also order by saying ‘I am’ and then saying the name of the item you’re ordering, for example, ‘immortal.’ Trust me, it’s kind of fun.

If you end up going, here’s a list of items that are Blank Itinerary and Rawvana approved (they all look pretty and taste good too):

Food:

Fortified: Okay, so this one is on the secret menu, but it’s tasty! It’s a veggie bowl where you can add any sauce, but I definitely recommend the thai almond sauce (my favorite)!

Transformed: Molé. Tempeh. Tacos. I know. Actually amazing. This one is a good choice if you’re craving Mexican but want something meatless (it’s a vegan restaurant)!

Celebrating: Vegan spring rolls. These are so yummy and come with a sesame wasabi dipping sauce which is to die for! Plus, it’s fun to say, ‘I am celebrating.’

Magical: It really is magical. It’s basically a vegan double double burger and I promise you’ll  be surprised by how delicious it is. Make sure you order it with some mustard to make it even better!

Drinks:

Immortal: Okay, it sounds weird but it’s my favorite. It’s a mix of powdered mushrooms with steamed almond milk, honey, and cinnamon. So, so, so good.

Vibrant: It’s green. It’s pretty in pictures. It’s delicious. It’s matcha. What else could you ask for?

Grace: A creamy coconut smoothie that’s simple and filling. Coconut meat and almond butter taste delicious blended together… who knew?

Alert: Okay, as you know, I love matcha. This one is like Vibrant, but it’s a smoothie and has some avocado and dates thrown in. Don’t let the avocado turn you off from this one, you won’t even taste it!

Juice Crafters

This place is all over San Diego nowadays so a quick Google search will probably give you the closest one and its hours.

I love going here for a quick pit stop to get a juice when I’m thirsty or even a smoothie in the morning when I don’t have time for a sit down breakfast. So fast, healthy, and delicious! Plus, it’s perfect for the quintessential ‘hand-holding-a-juice’ Instagram (we’ve all been there, right?).

I recommend going with a juice that has things in it that you like. But I really like the Root Guru and Rootier because I love having beets in my food and drink (I love the deep red color and the taste) and Rawvana confirmed for me that they’re really good for you too!

If I had to choose a smoothie instead of a juice, it’d be Summerland. I really, really like it. It’s a mix of kale, romaine, açai, banana, almond milk, and cinnamon. I promise you won’t taste any of the leafy greens because it’s purely delicious.

Peace Pies 4230 Voltaire Street San Diego, CA 92107 11 AM — 8 PM

So Rawvana and I only went here for dessert so I can’t talk about the entrees but they sound, really good — Nori Nirvana, yes please! That said, two of their desserts really grabbed our attention (fair warning though, the cheesecake flavors rotate.)

Coconut Raw Brownie: Living up to her name, Rawvana wanted to try this one and I have to say, she has good taste! It was surprisingly really chocolatey and I couldn’t stop stealing bites! Definitely a good choice.

Mint Chocolate Cheesecake: Full disclosure, I’ve always really liked cheesecake so when I saw that they had cheesecake I had to try it. Needless to say, it lived up to my cheesecake expectations, and mint and chocolate never hurt! I’d go back for this one in a heartbeat.

Aw, such lovely photographs! You both look so happy 🙂

I’m definitely going to bank this post for when I visit San Diego (hopefully sometime soon!) as I’ve been living a vegan lifestyle for almost a year now and it’s always helpful to know where places are in a city before I go as they can sometimes be hidden gems!

What hotel do you recommend in San Diego that are near the good shops and restaurants? I’m visiting San Diego with my boyfriend end of February, and it will be our first time. By the way, I saw you in the intermix store in Aspen about a year ago and have followed your blog/insta ever since!
