My Top 5 Winter Skin Tips

For many people, the cold winter days bring a lot of skin problems including uncomfortable dryness to the skin, especially to those exposed hands, face and feet.

We all start turning on our indoor heating and lighting chimneys and this causes our skin to get very dry. I live in San Diego where we can afford to hold off on the heating to just a couple hours during the night, but many cities are too cold for that and probably have the heating on all day and night! So, here are my top winter skin care tips for all you suffering from that dry winter skin.

  1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

Make sure you are moisturizing enough every day. We tend to concentrate on our face mostly, but don’t forget the rest of your body! Try different moisturizers to see which works best for your skin during this dry season. I personally prefer the EOS Body Lotions. I love that they absorb quickly and have natural ingredients like avocado oil and vitamin E. I love EOS products in general but these body lotions are definitely one of my favorites.

  1. Take out the Sunscreen

Wear sunscreen!! You can actually get even more sunburnt on cloudy days. Don’t think that no sun means no sunscreen. Sunburns cause our skin to age faster and not to mention skin cancer. Taking care of your skin mean sunscreen every day, year-round.

  1. Put Some Hand Moisturizer in Your Purse

I like to always carry a good hand moisturizer in my bag especially during the winter to make sure I am constantly moisturizing throughout the day. Our hands and faces are usually the most exposed to the dry air so keeping them as moisturized as possible is important.

  1. Get a Humidifier

If you have central heating on most of the time, I would really suggest getting a humidifier for you room. A humidifier releases moisture back into the air and makes it less dry, helping prevent your skin from drying.

  1. Avoid the Peels

If your skin is feeling dry, avoid using harsh peels, masks or toners. These things can strip the oil from your skin, leaving it more dry. Maybe go for a mild cleanser and try a hydrating masks instead of clay masks for example.

It would be even better to show what skin care products you swear by and show us a video of your daily routine. Even with explaining why you use those specific products. Some of us followers of your blog, cannot afford or are reluctant to purchase super luxury items. But you’d be ideal to use affordable products and let us know which actually WORK! Ones that can even out skin tone, ones that are great to cleanse the face without leaving the skin too dry, and moisturizers that can be used over night or before makeup application that hydrate skin, yet don’t leave it too shiney or oily. I think it’s time to get a humidifier! I battle ridiculously dry skin in the winter (especially in the desert!) and nothing has seemed to be helping. So, I like your idea of a humidifier. It didn’t even cross my mind!

Winter is a tough time with skin. Ways of care also depend on the individual’s skin type and skin type. I have oily skin and have acne. So my skin care will be different from yours, of course, things like moisturizing are indispensable.
