As you all probably know by now, a 7.1 earthquake shook Mexico this Tuesday after an extremely powerful 8.1 earthquake struck just weeks before and follows a series of other devastating natural disasters in the country. Hundreds of people have died, buildings have continued to collapse, rescuers haven’t stopped working in days, racing against the clock to save as many people from under the debris who are still stuck, Mexico City and other towns and cities are in chaos. It breaks my heart to see my country in so much pain and suffering but I have been greatly moved to see how literally, the whole city and people all over the country, are out on the streets helping in any way they can. I wish I could physically be there to help too, but, like many Mexicans who live in other parts of the world, this is my way of doing what I can. I have been updating my Insta Stories with helpful information. Information people all over the country have sent me, firsthand information from people in Mexico City who are there and are asking for help and specific needs, information on helpful resources, information from friends and family members.
I hope that it somehow helps and reaches the right people. In addition to donating, this is what I can contribute. I will continue to see all your messages and try to disseminate as much as I can. Together we are stronger! I hope you will also understand that blogging is my job, so I also need to continue uploading other photos and material. This does not mean that I am not empathetic to the suffering of my country. I will continue doing what I can. Thousands of people see my Insta Stories and since Day 1, I have been putting information on there and will continue to do so. To all my friends and followers all over the world, here are some resources to donate and help! Como todos probablemente ya saben, un sismo de 7.1 sacudió a Mexico el martes después de que otro sismo extremadamente poderoso de 8.1 pegará apenas semanas antes. Cientos de personas han muerto, edificios han continuado a colapsar, los rescatistas no han dejado de trabajar en días en una carrera contra el reloj para salvar a la mayor cantidad posible de gente que sigue debajo de los escombros. La ciudad de México y otras ciudades afectadas están en caos. Me rompe el corazón ver tanto dolor y sufrimiento en mi país pero al mismo tiempo ha sido muy conmovedor ver cómo literalmente, toda la ciudad y la gente de todo el país, están en las calles ayudando de cualquier manera que puedan. Ojalá pudiera estar físicamente ahí para ayudar también, pero, como muchos mexicanos que viven en otras partes del mundo, esta es mi manera de aportar. He estado actualizando mis “stories” de Instagram con información útil. Información que me ha estado mandando gente de todas parted del país, información de primera mano de personas de la Ciudad de México que están ahí y están pidiendo ayuda y tienen necesidades específicas, información sobre recursos útiles, información que me mandan amigos y familiares.
Espero que de alguna manera eso ayude y le llegue a la gente adecuada. Además de donar, esto es lo que puedo contribuir. Continuaré viendo todos sus mensajes y trataré de difundir todo lo que pueda. ¡Unidos podemos lograr mucho! Eso ha sido evidente en los últimos días!! Espero que también entiendan que el blog es mi trabajo, así que también necesito que continuar publicando otras fotos y material. Gracias por usar tu influencia y medios para ayudar a nuestro país que desgraciadamente paso por esto. Como dices son muchos sentimientos encontrados, por un lado puedes sentir tanta tristeza al ver con tus ojos la devastación, pero al mismo tiempo sientes tanto orgullo ver que todos somos un sólo corazón y todos ayudan a todos. Es súper abrumador caminar por las calles y ver que aunque regreses a la normalidad nada será igual, mucha gente perdió todo casa, muebles, trabajo, gente amada, etc.
En las próximas semana viene lo difícil donde empieza la verdadera reconstrucción y creo que también algo importante es reactivar la economía y aportar con “cosas tangibles”
