Why SPF Makeup is the Next Big Thing

If it’s one thing we all need to take more seriously, it’s protecting our skin. SPF is the most important step in our beauty routines. SPF not only helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun, but it also helps prevent early signs of aging like wrinkles and sun spots. I’m all about preventing skin damage and am loving the new SPF makeup trend I’ve been seeing. You can never be too protected from the sun, right? From SPF primers, blushes, lip balms, setting sprays and more, these are the makeup products you need this summer.

FACE

I’ve used foundations and tinted moisturizers with SPF, but when I heard of primers with SPF, I had to try one. The one I’ve been using is the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer with SPF 30. For foundation, I love the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. It gives full coverage, yet looks natural and is also super hydrating! Other foundations with SPF I like are the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and the Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation.

CHEEKS

Yup, SPF bronzer, blush and highlighter are about to be your new best friends. I’ve tried a bunch of Drunk Elephant products and the D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops are a must. For blush, the Perricone MD No Blush Blush is great for a beautiful hint of color on the cheeks. For a little extra glow, I like the Supergoop Glow Stick, which you can also use on your body to highlight collarbones, shoulder, etc!

EYES

Did you know the skin on your eyes is 10% thinner than the rest of your face? That means they’re more susceptible to sun damage. Of course, you should never skip sunscreen around your eyes, but you can also use eye makeup with SPF for added coverage. Supergoop has an amazing creamy, shimmery eyeshadow with SPF 30 (the first one ever). It’s super easy to use and looks beautiful on! Next top off your eye look with SPF mascara. Eyeko’s Beach Mascara is made with sunscreen, coconut oil and a waterproof formula to protect and condition your lashes.

LIPS

Lips are easy to overlook when applying sunscreen, so having a lip balm or lipstick with added SPF is a great option to keep in your bag this summer. My favorite everyday lip balm with SPF is the Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip treatment. It’s super hydrating and comes in a bunch of colors. For lipstick, I like the YSL Rouge Volupté Lipstick and the Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner.
