Food is probably one of my favorite things to talk about, so I’m super excited to share with you all an updated list of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. I always get a ton of DM’s asking for San Diego restaurant recommendations so I hope this will be super useful for both natives or anyone planning on visiting soon! So without further ado, here are all my favorites places to eat in San Diego, California!

FRENCH
Though I’m lucky to be able to visit Paris quite a few times a year, I always miss French food when I’m home. Luckily, San Diego has a few really good spots where I can get my French food fix. For a quick bite, I love Little Frenchie, a cute new addition to Coronado! Another one everyone is raving about is Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad. It’s definitely worth the drive up North since the interior design alone is beautiful!
Aunque tengo la suerte de poder visitar París varias veces al año, siempre extraño la comida francesa cuando estoy en casa. Afortunadamente, San Diego tiene algunos lugares muy buenos donde puedo comer mi comida francesa favorita. Para algo rápido, ¡amo Little Frenchie, un nuevo restaurante en Coronado! Otro del que todos están hablando es Jeune et Jolie en Carlsbad. Definitivamente vale la pena manejar hacia el norte, ya que solo el diseño interior es hermoso.
ITALIAN
Italian is definitely one of my favorite foods to splurge on when I go out to eat in San Diego. One of my favorites is Alexander’s on 30th in North Park. It has the best pizza and Bolognese. Another longtime favorite of mine is Catania in La Jolla. It has a beautiful terrace so I definitely recommend going for lunch and starting with the chopped salad.
La comida italiana definitivamente es de mis favoritas. Me encanta Alexander’s on 30th en North Park. Tiene la mejor pizza y boloñesa. Otro de mis favoritos desde hace mucho tiempo es Catania en La Jolla. Tiene una hermosa terraza para disfrutar el atardecer.
SEAFOOD
Maybe it’s because we are by the water, but San Diego has some of the best seafood. Ironside is one of those restaurants that’s great all around– good food, always crowded, great for celebrations and a good bar. If you’re celebrating, the seafood tower is a must. Another newer restaurant I’ve been going to a lot because the fish is so good, is Il Dandy. It’s Italian but they have some good fish. I love the seabass and the tuna and mozzarella appetizer.
Tal vez es porque estamos cerca del mar, pero San Diego tiene algunos de los mejores mariscos. Ironside es uno de esos restaurantes que tienen buena comida, siempre esta lleno, es ideal para celebraciones y un buen bar y ambiente. Si estás celebrando, la torre de mariscos es imprescindible. Otro restaurante más nuevo al que he estado yendo mucho porque el pescado es muy bueno, es Il Dandy. Es italiano pero me encanta el seabass y el aperitivo de atún y mozzarella.
STEAK
Though I love my fish, sometimes I crave steak night. One of the best that only a local would recommend you is Cowboy Star. Everything from the steak tartare appetizer to the burger to their filet is amazing. If you’re looking to score extra points with your man, he will love this place! They also have a great bartender making drinks!
Aunque amo el pescado, a veces necesito una buena carne también. Uno de los mejores que solo un local te recomendaría es Cowboy Star. Todo, desde el aperitivo tartare de carne hasta la hamburguesa y su filete, es increíble. Si buscas ganar puntos extra con tu hombre, ¡este lugar le encantará! También tienen muy buenas bebidas!
ASIAN
San Diego is on a roll when it comes to getting LA’s best restaurants to open up. I finally got to try the famous Din Tai Fung, which opened at the newly renovated UTC mall in San Diego. It’s always insanely crowded, so I recommend going during non peak hours or joining the waitlist on Yelp before arriving. If you’re looking for a more scene-y Asian spot with good drinks, you’ll want to try the newly opened Animae in Downtown. All the cold appetizers are delicious and very insta-worthy!

Finalmente pude probar el famoso Din Tai Fung, que abrió en el recientemente renovado centro comercial UTC en San Diego. Siempre está increíblemente lleno entonces les recomiendo que hagan reservación! Si están buscando un lugar asiático con más ambiente y buenas bebidas, vayan a Animae recién inaugurado en downtown. ¡Todos los aperitivos fríos son deliciosos y valdrán la pena subir a su Instagram!
SUSHI
When it comes to sushi, I seriously don’t mess around! It’s one of my favorite date nights with Hector or with my girlfriends. One of my favorites is Himitsu in La Jolla. The quality is super good and authentic. For Omakse (chef’s set menu), Soichi is a new omakase-only sushi spot in San Diego I can’t get enough of. The fish is unbelievably fresh and is worth every penny if you’re looking to splurge ($125 per person.)
Cuando se trata de sushi, me lo tomo muy en serio. Es mi “date night” favorito con Hector o mis amigas. Uno de mis favoritos es Himitsu en La Jolla. La calidad es super buena y auténtica. Para Omakse (menú fijo del chef), Soichi es un nuevo lugar de sushi solo para omakase en San Diego y está buenísimo. El pescado es increíblemente fresco y vale cada centavo si no te importa gastar un poco más de lo normal para una buena cena ($ 125 por persona).
BRUNCH
And last but not least, brunch (or breakfast!) It’s not often that a beautifully designed restaurant with hour-long lines on the weekends will live up to the hype. However, the new brunch spot Morning Glory definitely does. PS. the bathroom is total IG gold! My favorites are the pancakes and the fried rice. For a healthier, more casual breakfast vibe, Naked Cafe is my favorite. They have locations in Carlsbad, Encinitas and Point Loma. I love the pesto scramble and the avocado toast! Finally, one that never fails, Great Maple! They have two locations but the original one on Washington St. is my favorite.

No es frecuente que un restaurante bellamente diseñado con colas de una hora los fines de semana esté a la altura de las expectativas. Sin embargo, el nuevo lugar de brunch Morning Glory definitivamente lo hace. PD. Mis favoritos son los panqueques y el arroz frito. Para un ambiente de desayuno más saludable y casual, Naked Cafe es mi favorito. Tienen ubicaciones en Carlsbad, Encinitas y Point Loma. ¡Me encanta el pesto scramble y el avocado toast. I’ve seen little frenchie in coronado on my way to the beach, I’ve always wanted to try it since I’ve also heard good reviews about the authentic French food it’s hard to find a good French spot here in SD. Cowboy star looks amazing I’ve seen it on your IG story Before and reading your review on it it makes me so hungry for a good burger and cocktail !

PS: for a glass of wine, I recommend Vin De Syrah. It's underground on 5th avenue of DT San Diego, and it's completely breathtaking!! Check it out, I found it by accident (being curious lol)

The legends: SD’s oldest restaurants.
All the restaurants are over 50 years old, multigenerational family businesses..
Slater’s 50/50 is now a small chain.. has locations outside of San Diego.
And Phil’s will probably do the same shortly
