I have received many messages from some of you asking about restaurant recommendations and things to do in San Diego so I decided to start doing some fun posts about some of my favorite things about San Diego! I’ve decided to call this series Neighborhood Guide and I’ll be doing similar posts for places that I often go to like New York and L.A! Hector and I love trying new restaurants and eating good food but we also tend to have our favorites. Here are my current favorite spots to grab a yummy dinner in my hometown. Let me know if you would like to see more posts like this and if you are from San Diego and have any restaurant recommendations for me, please tell me in the comments!! I am always looking for new places to try!
1. Herb & Wood

This place opened up a couple of months ago in Little Italy and it has easily become one of my favorites. When friends visit San Diego, I always recommend this place. It has a fun atmosphere and the decor and overall ambience is amazing. The food is incredible! Seriously anything you order is good and the menu is very interesting. Their oven-roasted vegetables are a must especially the baby carrots! So delicious! Plus, you are in a fun area and close to downtown if you want to go out after dinner.
2. Catania

Hector and I recently discovered this hidden gem in La Jolla. It’s on a rooftop and not only is the food incredible, the view makes the meal so much more enjoyable. The pastas are hand-made and every single one is out of this world. If you like Italian food, you definitely need to check this place out. The pizzas are also amazing and the ambience is so enjoyable. Watching the sunset while enjoying a good meal and a glass of wine is the perfect date-night.
3. Buona Forchetta

Ok, so I like Italian food but there are just so many amazing Italian restaurants in San Diego. This family owned restaurant is so authentic you feel like you are actually in Italy. Their specials menu changes every day and everything is just so good. Located in South Park, it seems like this place got on everyone’s radar last year because you cannot get a table for dinner unless you make a reservation. There are always people waiting to be seated. Yes, it’s that good.
4. Liberty Public Market

When I lived in Barcelona, I loved going to the famous food market, La Boqueria, and spending an afternoon walking around and trying different kinds of food and wine. San Diego brought this concept to Liberty Station in Point Loma and if you haven’t been there already you are missing out! It’s open 7 days a week and hosts local vendors during the day and night. It’s such a fun and unique experience and perfect for a casual dinner with friends and family. It is also very kid friendly and even has a little area outside for the kids to play and families to sit picnic style.
5. The Grill at Torrey Pines

If you watch my Insta stories and Snapchat you might have seen that Hector and I went here recently. The iconic view of the Torrey Pines Golf Course is amazing and I just love the vibe of this place. There are cozy fireplaces and great local craft beer. I cannot describe how delicious the burger is. If you go, you need to try it! I really like the tomato soup here as well… but the BURGER…. omg.
Love this list! I’ve been to San Diego a few times, and haven’t yet tried any of these! Just means I need to book another trip ASAP 🙂

These spots look great!! Will keep them in mind when I visit! 🙂

Gonna have to check these places out! My husband and I are such bigtime foodies and we’re always on the lookout for delicious restaurants like these! Check out Bo Beau for your next eatery spot. They have one in la Mesa and in Ocean Beach. And try the Brussel sprouts!!!! THEY’RE AMAZING!
As soon as I read about the new restaurant in Little Italy, I immediately thought of Buona Forchetta! They’re amazing! I’m fluent in Italian and the owners are super nice. The closest thing to “real” Italian food I’ve had outside of Italy!
