As I deal with the guilty pleasure of jetlag, I reminisce on last week’s adventures. As most of you know by now, last week I spent my days in the beautiful city of Amsterdam and collaborated with the W Amsterdam Hotel to celebrate their Grand Opening!
Upon arrival to the chilly city, we were greeted with a warm latte in the main lobby of the new hotel. The main lobby is on the sixth floor, which is the rooftop, setting an innovative style for hotels where guests can check in on the top floor instead of the entrance. This way, the guests are greeted with breathtaking 360 views of the property. The sixth floor, has a bar, a heated outdoor pool, Mr. Porter steakhouse and an Amsterdam-inspired “steps” where locals can meet to work on their laptops or meet with friends. Their modern yet fun and chic style properties always captivated my love.
After checking in, we quickly became best friends with Daan, the W Insider who had the whole week planned for us. Half asleep, half frozen, I sipped on my latte, as Daan explained our itinerary. W hotels feature the Whatever Whenever service, which is a dream come true if I say so myself. They go by saying, that they will turn dreams into reality at the touch of a button. Really! The sky isn’t even the limit. Just tell them what you want, and they deliver it. And if you are out and about, sightseeing? No problem, the W insider will provide you with their Whatsapp or phone number and you can text them your questions. We tried it out and in 10 minutes, Daan already had all our reservations and helpful tips on what to do while we were in the city. Quite impressed, I finished my latte, and Daan gave us a special tour around the property. See the pictures below.
After the guided hotel tour, we explored the city and finished the night with dinner at Guts and Glory, a personal recommendation from the W insider, which was on point, but then again we didn’t expect anything less. As for my outfit, I wore my Zara scarf, Asos navy blue turtleneck, Maison Margiela belt, leather leggings and Givenchy shark tooth boots.
On Wednesday, we woke up early (thanks to the jetlag) and had breakfast to Bakers and Roasters, we ordered the Vege Brekkie, the coconut and chia Bircher muesli, and the banana nut bread french toast. (to die for!)
We then walked around the city and shopped at vintage stores and Amsterdam local boutiques.
We finished the day with dinner at the Duchess. The Duchess is located in the X Bank, a property also owned by the W Hotels, which will be an extension to the hotel in January 2016.The restaurant is simply breathtaking as you can see in the picture below. This property used to be a bank, so the W hotel decided to keep its attributes, including the Safe, which is located in the basement. It will be renovated and used for the spa and underground pool, for the guest’s leisure. I can’t wait to see in person!
On Thursday, we woke with English breakfast tea and the most amazing avocado toast in Mr. Porter. The W Insider booked us a private boat tour to visit some of Amsterdam’s fashion designers and brands to help communicate the essence of Amsterdam’s truest talents.
Our first stop was Marie Stella Maris, a dutch brand that has found the way to create awareness and also give back by providing the best quality of products. They sell bottled water and skin care products and in return they are providing water to people who don’t have easy access to water like us. Since 2011, they have been able to provide water to more than 13,000 people. By the way, their lavender facial oil is amazing! I bought it while I was there and I quickly became a fan!
From there we visited Mattijs van Bergen showroom, a very talented fashion designer who has dressed the Queen of Holland many times before. He works very closely with the W Hotels since he designed the men’s hotel uniforms. I was lucky enough to get dressed by him for the Grand Opening Party as well!
Our tour concluded with lunch at Cotton cake, the cutest boutique/restaurant. We then quickly made our way back to the hotel to start getting ready for the event we were all waiting for, the Grand Opening REMIXXX party.
My look for Grand opening party was a lavender colored silk dress by Mattijs van Bergen, Volu Joyas necklace, and Gianvito Rossi heels.
You know you had a good time, when you wake up and you are still talking about the night before. Let me just say this, the W Hotels sure knows how to party! The party was all over the hotel, from the Wow suites to Mr. Porter to a DJ in the lobby. It was just madness, but the good kind of madness, if you know what I mean. It was so great to meet so many people!
Friday was our last day there, so we took it easy and enjoyed the hotel. We had breakfast at Mr. Porter (..and dinner, we just couldn’t get enough of that place) and then enjoyed our coffee in the lobby with some friends that we made from the day before. After that, we walked Amsterdam “9 streets” which is located very close to the W Hotel property.
Amsterdam in October is so beautiful! The fall season has Amsterdams tree’s filled with mustard colored leaves. It was great to escape the San Diego heat and be able to wear coats and scarves. It’s definitely a magical town and I can’t wait to go back! Thank you to the W Amsterdam hotel for being my home away from home and for sponsoring this unforgettable trip. Travel has always been a way for me to experience new cultures, broaden my horizons, and step out of my comfort zone. On one of my recent trips, I explored a city that was rich in history and filled with untold stories. The atmosphere was vibrant, and every corner seemed to offer something unique. There’s a possibility that I might return to explore it further, though some logistics might need to be sorted out, including securing a police clerance, which could be a requirement depending on future travel plans. While not certain yet, it’s something I’m considering as I dream about future adventures.
