Some fun facts about fashion week.I am finally heading home after another successful fashion week and as I reflect about the last month, I thought it would be fun to share a couple of random things that people might not usually talk about during fashion week. So here is a short and sweet post that I hope you will enjoy! Stay tuned this week for a recap of Milan!
1. The actual show lasts 15 minutes or less.
I had an Uber driver during NYFW pick me up after a show and he was upset because he thought the shows lasted at least a couple of hours and he had decided to work and then come back to see if he could spot Blake Lively. True story. Lol. Sorry, man.
2. At one point, we all have changed in an Uber
Desperate time call for desperate measures. I just politely ask them to please not turn around or look for a couple of minutes. Of course, I try to be as discrete and quick as possible. I think they are probably used to it too.
3. I always cry on the last day.
Not because I am going to miss fashion week but from exhaustion. I would call it a cry from relief. Yes, fashion week can be fun and exciting but more than anything, it is physically and mentally exhausting. The best feeling is being able to pack up, put everything away and know you are heading home.
4. Everyone secretly dreads NYFW in February but still goes.
Seriously, for at least a month before NYFW in February, conversations between me and other friends in the industry, go something like this: “Ugh, I am not looking forward to the cold in New York,” ” How cold do you think it will be this year?” “Last year I got caught in a blizzard,” “Remember when all the flights got cancelled because of that storm?” “Maybe I can skip a couple of days.” And then of course, we all just end up going the whole week.
5. The pressure is a serious thing.
People can be intimidating and catty, especially when it comes to where you are seated. I remember when I was starting out and I attended my first NYFW, it was very intimidating and people were not as friendly or welcoming as they are now. Like any other career or industry, it can be tough and some people can be very competitive.
6. If you are late, you are not getting in, no matter who you are.
I feel like I have a fashion week guardian angel because I am always running late and somehow, I always make it even if it’s at the final minute. But, I know of many people who have missed shows because they were late. Once the doors close and the show starts, no one gets in.
7. No one goes to everything they RSVP to.
As you can imagine, we get a lot of invitations. I honestly try to RSVP to only things to things I am interested in and that I think I can actually go to. I have to consider time restraints, distance, how busy my schedule is, overlapping events. And to be honest, even though I RSVP, sometimes I simply can’t make it, I am too exhausted, the weather gets in the way or I just don’t have time!
6. Si llegas tarde, no entras, no importa quién seas.
I love reading about Fashion Week, and this post was SUPER intersting to read! Nice to know the genuine, behind-the-scenes of what goes on. Thank you for sharing and dishing the gossip 😀

Que linda experiencia!!
I always figured it wasn’t as glamorous as it seems. Especially the ones in Feb, I would seriously dread that cold too. The last thing I want to do when it’s freezing is put a chic outfit on. Just want a sweater and leggings. 😜
Great insight into all the hype!

Well, I just wanted to ask about that last day cry and exhaustion.. Do you have to go to every single show you are invited to? Well if I knew I am a type of person I am really exhausted after such a many shows etc I would skip a few and go just to a few I really love and wear or admire. I know it is hard to choose but why not to enjoy the whole fashion week and make it a little bit less stressful? :))

I definitely don’t go to everything I am invited to. It would be impossible! lol Now, thankfully, I am lucky that I can choose the ones I most want to see. However, I do try to make the most out of fashion week because it is an opportunity to build relationships with brands and network. It’s the most important time of the year in the fashion industry! A lot of times I have work and jobs to do while I am there also. It is nice when I have more relaxed days which I definitely enjoy, but it’s also important for me to make the most out of it! 🙂 Thanks for your comment!!
I use to follow and get inspired for just some bloggers because I believe most of them are not honest or genuine. I really like your style and personality I believe your real, and of course your Mexican like me ♥️🇲🇽
So true! The shows go by so quickly. I’ve had the opportunity to be on both sides and the planning for a show takes so long and then getting ready for the show takes so long and then it’s over in the blink of an eye. And I agree, the February one is always so brutal!

Thanks for your insights of NYFW. I can imagine it’s a grind, not as glamorous as one might think. Enjoy your homecoming with Enzo & hubby.
so interesting post, it would be nice to make a vlog, like how was at the beginning, and how it is now in fashion week. I adore this behind the scenes

Love how honest you are in this post! I always wondered about the RVSP-ing thing and if it offended brands when someone who RSVPs doesn’t turn up, but I’m sure they understand that plans can change or weather can disrupt things.
Thanks for sharing 🙂

Me ha encantado leer tu post. Simplemente genial!
