Aspen, Colorado, a place that deserves its own title.
In my first 24 hours in winter wonderland, a single thought came into mind, “Why didn’t I come here sooner.”
As most of you know by now, I went to Aspen for new years eve, in other words, “high season,” where this small mountain town swells from a population of 7,000 residents to approximately 30k.
We arrived in Aspen around 8 pm, to this astonishing residential compound, settled in the mountains. The Ritz Carlton Residence Club is located in Aspen Highlands, a mountain of its own, with the famous and respected “Bowl”. Even in the tone of darkness, you could feel the Rockies ancient sentinels with a Game a Thrones aura, that you relate with the Starks well know phrase “Winter is coming”.
Even with a freezing -2F we decided to take the shuttle to downtown Aspen to get some groceries and stock up for a week.
The next day, the first morning I was anxious to see this beautiful place in the daytime, that I literally put on my Russian hat and coat over my pjs and just stood there on the snowy balcony… taking it all in.
After a long first day of snowboarding, we decided to warm up at Cloud Nine. It’s located at the top of Aspen highlands. It’s a chic, lively, with surprisingly good food little cottage, but this is not your typical little cottage. Every table has it’s own Reserved sign and Veuve the Cliquot bottles. Hector and I ordered the fondue, tomato soup and some wine. I’m not a huge fan of champagne, yes even Veuve the Cliquot. yes even Veuve the Cliquot.
After lunch, we made it down the mountain (sober) and headed to our villa. After a quick shower and change in outfit, we headed downtown to dinner. We ended up having dinner at Aspen White House Tavern, after our shuttle driver highly recommended it. Well let me tell you it was ahmazing!
The next day, I decided to take a break at snowboarding and instead took the Gondola ride up to the top of the mountain. The views from here were surreal! Hector, who did snowboard that day, was able to meet me for lunch at the restaurant.
The next morning, we woke up to winter wonderland and fresh powder on the mountain.
