As you probably have noticed on my Instagram, I got into running this year. The best thing that came out of this year for me, was the stability that the lack of traveling has given me. Thanks to that, I have been able to acquire a routine and adopt the healthy habits I had been wanting to achieve for years. I used to dread exercising. I would prefer to eat less just to avoid exercising but now I have realized that it doesn’t work like that and it’s not healthy.
Besides getting the physical appearance you desire, exercising gives you so many incredible benefits and can positively affect your mood and mental health. I have honestly, become addicted to running and my body now craves it. I know many of you are probably thinking it’s not for you or that you can’t do it but trust me when I say, if I could do it, so can you. I could barely jog 1 mile and now I do 7 miles without stopping and at a decent rate. Just like everything in life, you just need to start, give it time and not give up. First thing to get you motivated is to get some cute outfits and gear! Get a head start on those resolutions and take a look at my favorite running accessories!
Duh, right? But it goes beyond just any sneaker. Proper running shoes are a must. If you are going to be running consistently, you definitely need to invest in a good pair of shoes. There are a lot of cute sneakers but more than anything, you want to make sure they are actual running shoes and preferably from a good brand. I would suggest sizing at least half a size up. Some of my favorite brands for running shoes are Asics, New Balance, Nike, and Brooks. Check out this article for more info on how to choose the best running shoe for you.
A good pair of running socks can be just as important as a good pair of shoes. Running socks are designed to reduce blisters, wick moisture, and keep your feet more comfortable. When you start running longer distances, you will feel the difference.
I have become obsessed with running outfits! I have lived in activewear all year. I personally prefer to run in running shorts but leggings might be good for the colder days. Get a good sports bra, a hat, running jacket for cold mornings or evenings, and make sure you are visible if you run at night! You can get some reflective bands or clothing to be more visible when it gets dark.
There are so many accessories to up your running game from running sunglasses, warmer protection, lights, energy snacks and smart watches. Start with the basics and you will slowly realize what you need for your environment and level. Most important from this list would probably be the foam roller. If you don’t have one I highly recommend it in general for whatever exercise you are doing! Stretching your muscles is super important!
