My Secrets to a Successful NYFW

Woke up in NYC today!

Welcome to the busiest, craziest, most exciting week in the fashion world! This is what packing for NYFW actually looks like. Yes, NYFW is very exciting but getting through it successfully is a lot of work! When fashion week starts approaching, I start getting nervous and stressed because of all the weeks of planning, organization, and preparation to make sure everything goes smoothly! Here is a brief overview of what my prep for NYFW looks like!

Build a Calendar

Weeks before NYFW, my team and I start creating a general calendar of ideally all the shows I would like to attend, be invited to, meetings we want to set up, people we need to meet with, new relationships we want to build and important ones to maintain. Obviously, not everything will be possible. A lot of things will overlap but it’s important to have a master list of everything you would ideally like to accomplish.

Create a Schedule

Slowly, things begin to take shape as I start receiving invitations and we begin to form a more concrete and realistic schedule. Obviously, I need to work around the shows that are on the top of my list as well as any jobs that I have during NYFW. This can include events, shows, photoshoot and filming sessions as well as organizing my content posting schedule throughout the week which takes a lot of time, thought and planning. We also have to figure out how long it takes to get from one place to another and take NY traffic into account. Literally, almost every minute of the day is accounted for.

Making the Outfit Happen

Weeks in advance, I begin to take the time to do pulls. Which basically means I reach out to my favorite PR friends, brands, as well as filter through all the emails I get from new brands who offer to let me borrow or select pieces from their collections to wear during Fashion Week. This takes a lot more time and organizing than you would think. Half of the clothes I will receive will be sent to my hotel in New York and the rest to my home plus all my favorite items from my own closet I take with me to complement what I will receive so it’s hard to pack and organize and think out everything. I am not a light packer, and usually pack more than what I need because I panic if I feel I am missing something. When making the actual final outfits, I take photos on my phone and save them so I remember the outfits and don’t have to scramble the actual day (or at least not as much).

Game Day

The day is here and I try not to freak out. My team and I set alarms for when we need to leave where we are to arrive to the next event, we carry snacks in our bags in case we don’t have time to eat, we ALWAYS make sure to bring portable phone chargers, water, our laptops and laptop chargers so we can work, edit content on-the-go, and all the outfits I need for the day! I usually don’t have time to go back to the hotel during the day, so I literally carry around everything I need all day. Craziness I tell you!!!
