Stripes and Plaid

Don’t wear navy and black. Don’t combine colors that clash. Don’t mix too many patterns. These are some of the typical fashion taboos that you have all probably heard. One that I have heard for years is that plaid and stripes should not be worn together. It is true that it can get tricky when mixing patterns together but if done subtly and well, I think we can throw away this old fashion adage. The most important thing to keep in mind, in my opinion, is to not go overboard with too many colors. Stick to a color scheme. I would also suggest that one of the pieces has thinner stripes than the other in order to give your outfit some balance and not overwhelm the eye with too many bold lines and patterns. Here, I did just that with the plaid skirt which has thinner less conspicuous lines and the bolder striped sweater. The finishing touch on this though, really is this pair of Stuart Weitzman Tieland boots. It makes the outfit look complete and reinforces the color scheme. Now go and break some fashion rules!

Fashion is fun when you break the rules! I love that you’ve clashed patterns and worn two colours together that maybe some people wouldn’t always think of but it looks fabulous on you!

I love that skirt! It’s also cool that you can mix the plaid with the stripe since the plaid pattern is so small.
