Bonjour! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I was recently in Geneva, Switzerland. The land of chocolate, watches and cheese!
I had the most incredible opportunity to visit Geneva in partnership with Geneva Tourism. This was my first time in Switzerland and I was so excited to come and experience all the amazing things this country is known for (yes, that includes chocolate, watches and cheese of course). If you ever find yourself in this beautiful country, here are some of my top recommendations!
Restaurants
We arrived at our beautiful hotel, Le Richemond. It has the most stunning views! I was so jetlagged and tired when we arrived but I forced myself to stay awake to get used to the time difference so we went to dinner at this amazing place called Brasserie des Halles de l’ile. This place is in Geneva’s old market hall on an island and has some delicious buzzing cocktails. Arrive early to get the best seat in the house – a breathtaking terrace hanging over the water.
On another night we went to a fondue restaurant. This is a must! If you love cheese, Geneva is the place for you! Needless to say, the fondue was spectacular!
Summer Lakefront Concert
If you go to Geneva in the summer, you absolutely have to go to the lakefront concert. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the live music and the beautiful scenic backdrop of the lake. Switzerland is known for its many majestic lakes. The scenic beauty in Switzerland with its lakes, mountains and meadows is indescribable.
Jet d’Eau
This is a must! The Jet d’Eau, which literally translates “water-jet”, is a large fountain in Geneva and is probably the city’s most iconic landmark. 130 gallons/500 liters of water are jetted to reach a height of 460 feet/140 meters!! When it is in operation, there are about 1,800 gallons of water in the air. Trust me when I say this thing is jaw-opening! You can see it from everywhere in the city and even from the air. It definitely has to be on your list of things to visit.
St. Pierre Cathedral
Churches and cathedrals can be found on almost every street corner in Europe. They are all uniquely beautiful and I am always in awe every time I step inside one. St. Pierre Cathedral is no exception but the real beauty is the amazing view of Geneva from the top!
Watchmaking
Switzerland is known for its luxurious and high quality watches. We had the chance to visit a watchmaker and learn how to make our own watches and see how the magic is done! Definitely a fun and interesting thing to do here.
Countryside Vineyards
If you wander 20 min from the city you might find yourself in Geneva’s countryside. We rented bikes and rode through the countryside. It started to rain but that only made the experience so much more memorable! The countryside is so beautiful and it was incredible to take in the scenic views and be surrounded by so much nature. You can even see animals roaming around. Especially since I am usually in the city, being in the countryside was a one-of-a kind experience.
Thank you Geneva Tourism for sponsoring this post.
